San Colombano Suite

With just five lovely suites, a pool, and kitchenettes, this feels like a romantic little retreat. From there you look out over Lake Garda, with a huge stretch of green vineyards and olive trees below. Definitely an oasis.

The quiet surroundings helped us properly switch off, and we slept better than we often do at home thanks to the comfortable mattresses. Breakfast was another highlight: you choose what you want for the next morning from a wide selection, and the owners make it fresh with local, quality ingredients and bring it to your terrace. It's not the usual Italian breakfast, and we're quite fussy about that. We came for a long weekend at San Colombano Suites, but wished we'd booked longer. We'd been searching for a private, modern and beautiful place on Lake Garda for ages, and this was exactly what we wanted. The owners were friendly, easy to reach and always ready to help. The whole setup faces the lake, from the apartments and shared open areas to the infinity pool, so the view is stunning. There are loungers outside, plus each apartment has its own rooftop spot, a terrace at the front and another at the back, overlooking a neat garden with olive trees. The suites are beautiful and carefully designed, and you can tell the owners put thought into every detail. The quality shows in everything, from the gardens and decor to the furniture, kitchenette equipment and how the buildings work. Nothing felt like a compromise. Even the floors and bathroom tiles fit together perfectly, and the furniture is high quality Italian design. We travel a lot for work and know what luxury and boutique hotels can be like, but this place met a standard we don't always find even at five star hotels.

We were welcomed by Alexander, who explained everything in detail, and parked in the secure underground garage. Thais served breakfast on our private patio, with loads of choice and a lovely host. The suites are about 1 km from the lake, but electric bikes are available for free, and they're top quality. There are just five apartments, with no more than 10 guests at a time. Each has private space at the front and back, as well as a rooftop area. The views are gorgeous, and the place is so peaceful. There's also a recently built sauna outside behind the suites, among the olive trees. Everything feels top class, with attention to detail throughout. It's a perfect getaway for couples. The view is superb. This is the best place on Lake Garda, and the staff are very polite and helpful.
