B&B Sparano Luxury Suites

We had what seemed to be their biggest and brightest room, overlooking the central shopping street. Some of the smaller rooms are at the back on the roof. The street is very quiet at night, and there’s a huge terrace you can use anytime. Helpful staff were around in the morning to clean the room. The building is Victorian-era, with a lovely old-school lift. The shower lighting was a bit odd, but the air conditioning worked well and wasn’t very noisy.

We told the owners when we’d arrive, but nobody opened the door or answered the phone when we got to the B&B. We stood outside the building for about an hour and a half, calling without reaching anyone. The owner only called back after Booking contacted him. Inside, the floor was dirty, the window was broken and wouldn’t close, and the room was very hot despite the air conditioning. There was a kettle and coffee machine, but no cups. The terrace in the photos didn’t look anything like the real view: there was lots of rubbish, broken ground and no tables. It was a terrible experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The location and building are great, but the owner charges way too much for basic rooms. We found our room unlocked one evening when we came back, and there’s no reception. The owner wasn’t there at check-in or checkout. The cleaning lady was the only nice person there, and she let us in. Our attic room was small, on the top floor, and not very clean. There’s a big terrace with nice views, but the rooms get hot, have tiny windows and are quite loud. There’s nothing luxurious about this accommodation. Quite disappointing.

We spent a fair bit of time on the amazing patio, enjoying the sun and the surroundings. The rooms were nice and just right for the two of us, and it’s a quick walk to the train station, downtown and the old town. We were there for my wife’s 30th birthday, which I’d mentioned to the staff. They said they’d prepare a nice welcome, and they really came through with chilled prosecco, a bushel of roses and balloons. The next afternoon they surprised us again with focaccia in the hotel room. The staff did a fantastic job and were super friendly. I’d definitely recommend this for a nice little stay in Bari.
