The room itself was nice, but the way the stay was handled left me shocked and very disappointed. We were hosted by the newlyweds and, when we arrived in Barletta, the father greeted us and helped with our luggage. We paid cash for the garage we planned to use, left our documents, and were then asked to pay for the room. We explained that the newlyweds had offered it to us, though we were willing to pay; the father said he would check with his son. Breakfast was another disappointment. On the first morning, the bartender pleasantly asked whether he could bring us coffee and a croissant, without asking what we actually wanted or explaining the options. It felt like everything was being handled as cheaply as possible, and breakfast was meager anyway. When we left, we had to climb three flights of stairs to get our documents from the mother. The managers who were meant to return them were rude, and the mother asked us to pay again. Then the bride went to pay and was charged for both the room she had offered us and the garage we had already paid for. She seemed upset about what she thought we had cost her, but didn't say so to us. A cousin told us about the double charge, and one of the bride's relatives got the money back. We were told the father, mother, and son then traded accusations. It makes you wonder whether the family ever discussed how to manage the room. A beautiful room paired with terrible, ineffective management.
