Rossobarolo

The white truffle had hardly any flavor. We were charged as though 24 grams had been used, even though we only ate 16 grams, at 7 euros per gram. It felt like they were trying to take a lot of money from us. The food and service were dreadful, and the staff weren't friendly. This happened on my birthday, which made celebrating at Rossobarolo a real shame. Friends, don't go here.

The owner was happy to help with wine pairings for every course, with the server translating, and the suggestions worked well with the traditional set menu I ordered. Each dish was a good size, leaving room for the wine, and the courses came at a thoughtful pace with time to digest. It's a beautiful place, the staff are very friendly, and I'd say give it a try if you're nearby.

The bean soup was rich and full of flavor, and the beef tongue was tender and juicy. The fresh pasta was cooked just right too. The risotto with Barolo wine didn't suit my taste, though. You'd probably enjoy it more if you like strong, tannic wine flavors in food. It's a small, cozy place for traditional Piedmontese cooking, with welcoming staff and a warm feel. Prices are a little high, but there aren't many good dining options nearby, so it's a solid choice. They have a nice range of local wines and cheeses to go with the meal. I found the hazelnut cake too rich and not quite what I expected. I think the tiramisu might have been a better choice. Still worth a visit for traditional flavors if you're in the area.

We went to the restaurant, not the hotel. The back terrace was especially lovely, and the indoor space had a nice, comfortable atmosphere too. The food was very good, though portions were on the small side. The homemade goat cheese ice cream was extremely good. Staff were friendly, service was quick, and they spoke a surprising number of languages. We didn't need a reservation.
