We were welcomed properly, and the wine tasting was great, though the pours came too quickly one after another. I’d seen another comment saying bottles cost less at the supermarket, and that was completely true, apart from the house’s special bottles. I don’t like being charged more when buying a larger quantity than I would pay in a shop. The extra came to €800, while it would have been around €700 in the shop. Please keep this in mind, it really is true.
The place was lovely and the welcome was warm, but the glasses were pretty dirty. The bottles also cost more than at a market, and by quite a bit.
The owner was so friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. We had a great tasting at Barberani. Highly recommended!
They greeted us very warmly and let us taste everything on offer, even though they were right in the middle of preparations for the event "Cantine Aperte 2016 Umbria". Barberani has beautiful Orvieto wines as well as interesting reds that have already earned "tre bicchieri" in the Gambero Rosso. Polvento, for example, is a very nice blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot. My favorite of the tasting was the Moscato Passito, a dessert wine that goes beautifully with blue cheese or aged pecorino.
