Hotel Brennero

Good value for the money, especially if you arrive in Bassano by train. The hotel is near the historic center, just a pleasant few minutes’ walk away. My room was clean, the breakfast was decent with a good range, and the staff were professional and friendly.

We ended up here by accident after reaching Venice too late to drive to Ortisei. On arrival, especially at night, the place looked a bit dark and dated, and I wondered if I’d booked the right place. The host quickly changed my mind. He helped us park, gave us information and maps, and offered beer and sparkling water. His bar had a decent selection, and he’d make you anything, any time. The room was dated but clean, and the shower was fantastic. We overslept, so he called at 10 to let us know breakfast was ready and had a table set for us. He made excellent Cappuccinos, and breakfast was pretty good: yogurt, fruit, granola, croissant, and toast. It all came to 84 euros, the best value of our whole trip. The shopping and restaurant area of Bassano del Grappe is right across the street, with great restaurants and shops. We had a great stay.

We were caught without a place to stay when we arrived in Bassano, so finding somewhere for the night became the priority. We tried several places, but they were too expensive. At this hotel the front desk manager (?) was very friendly. The hotel was full, but he said they had one room left in their “other building,” gave us a key so we could go see it, and we decided it was perfectly adequate for the price and our limited options. The staff were the part of the stay I most want to mention. We only met that man and a woman at the desk the next morning, and both were incredibly nice. The cozy lobby had comfortable sofas and chairs, a cafe maker behind the counter, and sat just off the breakfast room. The fresh flowers smelled lovely too. Our room was small, but comfortable for the two of us once we’d unpacked. It had a “French” bed, somewhere between a twin and queen, closer to a twin. The bathroom was very nice and clean, and there were enough soaps and shampoos to last a week. The flat-screen TV above the bed had what felt like 8 zillion channels, mostly in Middle Eastern languages. There was also a real little kitchenette, with a fairly large fridge, sink, dishes, glasses, and a small stove. A little table had an ashtray, which made me think smoking might be allowed in the room, though it didn’t smell as if anyone had smoked there before us. Breakfast wasn’t included in the room price, so I can’t comment on it, though I imagine it was fine based on the rest of our stay. The location was good, near both the train station and the center of Bassano Del Grappa. For visitors from abroad or people in town for a weekend, it’s a good option for getting to the city’s main areas.

The customer service was great. A woman working the morning of November 8th was fantastic and gave me precise advice about bike rentals. She was very helpful.
