The setting is beautiful, and that part of Villa Serbelloni is hard to fault. But the stay itself was a letdown, especially after we’d just come from a five-star hotel in Switzerland. The staff weren’t rude, yet there was little attentiveness or warmth. We often weren’t greeted, and no one seemed to make an effort to help us feel welcome. Even at the pool, when towels were handed out, nobody offered complimentary water. For a five-star property, that felt surprising and unacceptable. We’d expected this to be a trip highlight. Instead, it was among the most disappointing parts. If you want to feel valued and looked after during a five-star stay, I wouldn’t choose this place.

The other guests were the one weak point for us. Dress code guidance had been clearly shared when booking, but many people didn’t follow it, which took away from the atmosphere of elegance and exclusivity. That aside, we had a wonderful time at this villa on Lake Como. The restaurant’s dishes were a delight, and the bar had a creative, sophisticated cocktail list. The staff even arranged a thoughtful birthday celebration for us. Service was consistently lovely. The waiters wore white stockings and bow ties all day, which suited the villa’s refined interiors and timeless character. From arrival onward, the whole staff showed real dedication, and the interiors themselves were stunning. The stay was unforgettable, luxury hospitality at its best.
