After I posted this review, the owner sent me another aggressive message. The apartment itself was fine for the price, with a good location and decent accommodations. The only small issue before checkout was that some lights wouldn't turn fully off at night. Nothing stood out as especially good or bad until the key incident on our last morning. My mother left the key for the second room in the door when she went out. A few hours later, the owner messaged me accusing us of breaking it and leaving it on the floor. I explained that the key was intact when we left it there. I suggested the cleaning staff might have broken it by accident while opening the door, but the owner dismissed that possibility and insisted that their housekeeper of 10 years would never lie. The owner seemed unwilling to consider anything except that we'd deliberately broken the key and hidden it. The exchange got unnecessarily heated, with the owner saying they were disappointed in us and ending with a passive-aggressive voice note about "forgetting it" that made clear they thought we were lying. It left us uneasy about our things being in the apartment during the day and about sleeping there on our last night. No guest should have to feel that way. I've stayed in hundreds of places across more than 120 countries over 11 years of full-time travel, and rarely leave a review unless something really stands out. After this happened, I looked at other reviews and saw a pattern: although the property's overall rating is good, several negative reviews mention confrontational behavior from the owners. That makes me think our experience may not have been isolated. The accommodation is fine for the price, but if something goes wrong, even if it might not be your fault, you could end up in an uncomfortable dispute that affects the rest of your stay. If peace of mind and professional communication from hosts matter to you, there are many other options in the area.
