Our room was at the back, with lovely mountain views, and stayed remarkably quiet even though people were still in the square into the early hours. It was functional and comfortable, just right for a city break. We visited in May, when it was getting warmer but still pleasant without air conditioning. Albergo Il Sole is right in the historic center of Bergamo’s beautiful Città Alta, and some rooms look onto the main square. The staff gave us a warm, cordial welcome, were friendly and helpful throughout, and we had no issues. Breakfast was good, though the coffee was the real treat. The cappuccinos were freshly made with proper barista style latte art, which we hadn’t expected at a hotel breakfast. That extra care made our mornings especially enjoyable. At a reasonable price, it’s a comfortable, peaceful stay with authentic hospitality in the heart of Bergamo Alta. It’s a 2 star hotel with 5 star service.

We picked the charming side terrace at Il Sole, right by beautiful Piazza Vecchia, and had a lovely view of the square. The place felt cozy, and the service was very friendly. We shared ravioli with butter sauce to start, then had rabbit and schnitzel with fried potatoes for our mains. The food was delicious, and we finished with a tasty tiramisu. A lovely place to eat when visiting Bergamo, and one we’d definitely recommend.

The hotel staff were amazing and went the extra mile to sort out every request. We really felt they wanted us to have a great stay, and the service was just perfect. Our room was clean and spacious, with housekeeping every day. It’s in a very good location in the heart of Citta Alta. I strongly recommend it and will definitely book here again.

The food is really nice, the service is great, and they make a fantastic Aperol spritz. We stayed at the hotel and ate at the restaurant a few times. There’s a lovely back courtyard, or you can sit out front and watch people in the square. Breakfast was really good too, with freshly made coffee. The location is amazing, just off the main square in the old town, and our room was clean with a great view. But the walls were so thin I could hear every word from next door. Luckily those guests went to bed around 10-11 PM. Otherwise, you could be kept awake all night. I highly recommend this hotel for visiting Bergamo, despite that.
