Happy Camp Camping Free Beach

It’s a beautiful site beneath the pine trees and close to the beach. The camper and tent pitches get a lot of sun, though, and the sanitary facilities are awful. The mirrors are too dirty to see yourself in, there are no toilet seats, and the taps either run constantly or don’t work at all. At night, the lights don’t work, and some tiles are broken with sharp edges.

We liked it here a lot. The mobile home was standard, and while some of the facilities were a little old, everything worked fine. The staff were very nice and helpful. It’s about 400 meters to the beach through the forest, a walk of around 7-8 minutes, or you can take the shuttle if you don’t want to walk. Trees cover the whole camping area, so there’s shade everywhere and you don’t feel the heat. What surprised us most was that there weren’t any mosquitoes at all.

The house we were given hadn’t been repaired very well. The shower base was broken, so every shower left the floor wet, and the sink also needed fixing because it wasn’t attached properly. Maybe ours was the only one in that state. The inventory was good, though: it included plates and even a coffee pot, plus a refrigerator and freezer.

The pool area was lovely, and the on-site shop was quite large. The touring pitch section, though, felt very tired. Heavy rain had left the whole field muddy, which wasn’t their fault, and the pitches were a bit overgrown. The toilet block had seen better days. Hot water in the showers took about five minutes to come through, and one morning the water stopped completely. I tried another block that was much nicer, but it didn’t seem to have hot water at all. There’s an “Oak Hall Street” in the middle of the map. Looking back at old photos, I realized I’d met my husband on an Oak Hall holiday at this campsite. We knew it was somewhere around here, but only picked the site nearest the beach on Google as our destination!
