Hotel Marconi Express

The room was clean and spacious enough for one person on a short stay, and the hotel was only a 4-5 minute walk from Bologna Central train station. That made it very convenient for my early flight. I checked in around 8 PM and left at 6 AM, staying less than a night. I’d pictured a traditional hotel building, but it’s actually in a plaza and feels more like a large apartment with separate rooms. The hotel contacted me right after I booked. Since I’d be arriving in the evening, I asked for restaurant suggestions, and they were really helpful with recommendations. I was very satisfied with the stay.

It’s on the first floor of a building. My room was clean and modern, with a comfortable bed, a modern bathroom, a fridge, and a coffee machine.

We left a day early and lost the over 300 EU we’d paid. The room was over 80 degrees when we checked in. Opening the window let in hundreds of nats and other insects. At night there was a horrible sewer gas smell, and noise from both the apartment above and the corridor. Light also came through around the door frame from the hallway. The accommodations weren’t satisfactory. This was by far our worst stay in Italy, and we wouldn’t recommend it.

We spent five days here, and the two staff members we saw each day were so sweet. They suggested places to visit and spots for dinner. There’s no restaurant, so you have to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner elsewhere, but that suited us since we came to Bologna to see the city. The rooms were nice and clean in this small, contemporary hotel. At first we couldn’t believe the building was a hotel, and it turns out the hotel itself only takes up the second floor. It was an absolute pearl. The last two days, the bathroom drain caused minor trouble. Showering led to a little flooding unless you turned off the water while soaping your hair. The beds were a bit too hard for us, too. Still, if we came back to Bologna, I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again.
