The room was much smaller than the one I booked. I’d reserved an 18 m2 room with a desk, wardrobe, and armchair, but was given a different room of 10 m2. Even in summer, there was a duvet and blanket on the bed, and we could barely find somewhere to put them. This was my third trip to Italy, and I’d seen the bad comments about the hotel but didn’t really believe them. The hotel is near the train station, but in the evening the area where homeless people live smelled of urine, which didn’t feel reassuring.

The room and building felt dark, dingy, and run down, with wobbly furniture and some pieces that seemed close to falling apart. The bathroom was nearly black and damp, with no clean bath mat and a random rug by the shower. There were no instructions for the WiFi or shower, and even two adults couldn’t work out the shower. When someone replied more than an hour later, right when we were getting ready, the response felt condescending. Getting inside was a hassle. We first walked past the door because an eviction notice was posted there, then got the wrong entry code. A photo in one email could have made it much easier. There didn’t seem to be any staff around. The terrace was there, but looked onto construction and piled-up junk. Breakfast was supposedly included, but all we saw were a couple of sad off-brand crackers on a table. After I complained, I was blocked from leaving a review on Booking.com. So I wouldn’t take that 8.2 rating at face value. And there’s no elevator, so expect to carry your luggage up the stairs.

The bed was comfortable, so it might work as somewhere to sleep between trains. It’s within walking distance of the city center, though the place was hard to find. There’s no real service. You text if you need something and hope for a reply. I waited over an hour and was basically told I was stupid. No instructions were provided for the WiFi or anything else in the room. It was dark and battered despite looking well photographed, and too dim to tell properly whether it was clean. The bathroom felt like a cave, with nowhere near enough light for makeup. There was no breakfast. Be ready to haul luggage up two flights of stairs if mobility is an issue.

The rooms are lovely, and the place is comfortable and affordable. It’s well located for getting around. Just be careful at night. Thanks a lot, I’d recommend it.
