I'm still shocked by this strange experience with the owner, dan. I've stayed in many hostels and never had behavior like this, and I've never written a bad review before. I wish I'd taken the other bad reviews seriously, since they might have warned me to stay away. Maybe this will help someone avoid a horrible experience. I booked through booking.com and understood that taxes were included, so I told dan that before arriving. Instead of explaining how it worked professionally, he flooded me with messages saying I wasn't welcome and basically pressuring me to cancel while I was already on my way to bologna. He called me a troublemaker, said I didn't understand anything, and said I loved war. It was very strange behavior from an owner.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. The host, Dan, acted a bit crazy. I paid €94 through hostel world for a six-bed room that wasn't very clean. When I arrived, he said I owed another €8.50 in cash for taxes. I asked if I could pay by card, and he said he didn't want to pay tax on it, so I should just pay cash. I didn't want to argue, so even though I was upset, I let it go. Overnight, €25 disappeared from the pocket of my jacket, which I'd hung on the locker beside my bed. I told the host to give him a heads up. He called right away. At first I thought that was caring, but he seemed to panic and immediately said it was my own fault, then demanded a detailed written account. I was sad to lose €25 but could live with it, and didn't want to spend extra time on it. He kept saying he had to go to the police and that I needed to write everything down. I checked, and for a minor theft he doesn't have to. We went back and forth for about eight minutes until I told Dan to stop, let it go, and leave me alone. He didn't. Dan called seven more times and sent 25 messages, saying he was the victim and I needed to do all this work for him. It upset me. I just wanted to enjoy my day, and the whole thing became more annoying than losing €25 in a way-too-expensive hostel. When I came to collect my luggage, he followed me, reopened the discussion, yelled that he was going to call the police, and wouldn't calm down when I told him to stop. He offered me €25 if I made a written report. By then I was so annoyed I told him to leave me alone, grabbed my bags, and bolted out because I felt so uncomfortable. A really, really terrible experience.

The bedroom was clean, and the large windows kept outside noise to a minimum. With the hot weather, air conditioning was very important, and it was there. Bathrooms were cleaned daily, and the apartment was fully equipped, even with extra things you usually have to pay for in hostels. The landlord responded and gave me all the apartment details. I arrived early, and he agreed to check me in three hours ahead of time. He was also very kind, offering drinks, food, and all his help throughout the day and even late at night. Thanks a lot!

The place is in Bologna’s pedestrian-only university quarter, with a real student feel and a location that works especially well for young international travelers. I found the price to be the lowest available in the city center during my stay. It’s a very good B&B, run by one host. Check that it’s open on your dates, since it isn’t open every day. Stick to the check-in time and agree your arrival time with the host. Read the booking rules carefully before you reserve. In my view, most of the bad reviews come from people who never stayed there or didn’t follow the policies, then wrote out of revenge instead of owning their mistakes.

We paid 5xx euro for two nights in a hostel with a shared bathroom. I asked whether we could pay extra for a room with a private bathroom, just to check if one was available. I was fine with being told no. I also asked whether the high price was because we booked late, so I could book earlier next year. The owner got angry, insulted me, and deleted our WhatsApp messages. I told him to relax and not get mad. I think saying I didn’t consider the hostel cheap set him off. I found him extremely rude while I was trying to be polite. This didn’t feel like a safe place to stay with such an emotional host. I think he’s crazy, and I hope this helps people avoid trouble and think twice before booking. What an experience. About the owner's reply on 24th May,2023: I'm sorry, I'm a young lady, not the person you described. I’m also sorry to hear another woman had an experience there. It sounds like plenty of different people have had to deal with your rude attitude, not just me. :)
