Weingut Eberlehof

We wished we could have stayed longer. Eberlehof and Zisser Horst made a perfect base for a weekend in Bolzano, where we wanted to enjoy local food, wine, and the incredible scenery. We stayed in one of the winery’s apartments on the mountainside. Three generations of the family live right next door, and the vineyard has been theirs for more than 350 years. The apartment was spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen, a nice bathroom with a washing machine, comfortable furniture, and a balcony with a postcard-worthy view. It felt like home straight away. We came by train. The walk to and from the winery is steep, but we saw it as part of the experience. A taxi from the city center costs around 10-15€ if you’d rather ride and don’t have a car. The Zisser family picked us up from Bolzano train station when we arrived and drove us back when we left, so we didn’t have to carry our luggage up or down the hill. They also stopped at a supermarket so we could get what we needed for our first night and morning. They gave us a tour of the wine cellar and let us try a couple of their wines too. We also got a Bozen card, which covers public transportation for exploring the nature around Bolzano and entry to several museums. Eberlehof and Zisser Horst are a great place to stay while discovering the area.

I stayed for seven nights, and the location was stunning. There’s a hill to walk up, but it’s worth it. My unit was comfortable and had everything I needed, including several coffee-making devices. The bed was comfortable, the heating worked great, and the water pressure and temperature were both good. The staff were very kind and helpful. They explained what to do around town and left useful information for me to read. They also left complimentary bottles of wine in the apartment, and picked me up and dropped me off at the train station, even at 4:30 AM.
