Le Querce

We came in July to visit the Park of the Monsters, and the swimming pool at Le Querce helped persuade us to book. We liked it so much that we added another night. Antonino was kind and attentive, and made the best eggs at a generous breakfast. The pizzeria has an extensive, creative menu, including a volcano pizza that really is something to see. Its pizzas were the thinnest and crispiest I've had in Lazio. It's popular with locals, so reserve a table before you arrive or as soon as you get there. It's closed on Sundays. The Park of the Monsters is about a 45-minute walk away, so plan on walking if you don't have a car. We loved the views of Bomarzo from Le Querce, especially at sunrise, when dawn comes over the valley and the hilltop town. One thing to know if booking by phone: they take cash or European debit cards with a PIN. It looked like credit cards could be used through a hotel booking site. I can't wait to visit Bomarzo and Le Querce again.

The view of Bomarzo from across the way, up on its hill, is incredible. I stayed at le Querce for five nights in late May and had a great time. The historic center is around a 10-minute walk, and Quadrifolgio, Bomarzo's one little restaurant, is walkable too, though there's no sidewalk. Antonino and his son Abraham spoke Italian with me, but I think English would probably have worked as well. My single room was spacious and clean, with pink walls and an open timber ceiling. The bathroom was bigger than I expected, with a tub and a separate shower. Breakfast was ample, with eggs, ham, cheese, bread, marmalade, juice, coffee, and more. The restaurant area is large enough to seat 40-45, so a small group could gather there easily.

Lovely place, with clean suites, a standard swimming pool and pretty gardens. Definitely worth a visit.
