Maria Stella and Fabio have made Valericarte feel like the opposite of faceless plastic tourism, giving the place their own character and direction through their vision and values. We came over a mountain pass with beautiful views of Umbria to Maria Stella’s place in Lamoli, a village of 90 people. There’s so much talk about the countryside in Tuscany and Umbria, but not enough about the Marche. The house feels like a welcoming extended family home, full of knowledge and its own character. It’s also a living collection of their art, and a museum of natural dyes. Maria Stella’s research into woad, a dye with a long history in this region, has changed how I see and notice blues. I’ve only just started to understand what she knows. She and her mother are talented artists and run several workshops, including an introduction to the ancient craft of making woad. The food is amazing, too. I came away feeling more creative, energized by the place. I’d happily recommend it to artists looking for a break or a fresh perspective, and to anyone wanting a beautiful place to stay with genuinely warm hospitality.

Stella and her family are so warm and welcoming. The house is a living art gallery, and the food, all natural, with herbs and organic ingredients, was better to me than any Michelin place. What an incredible little heaven on earth. I’m so glad I visited!

The food was honestly the best I’ve ever had. The house is comfortable, tasteful, and creative, and that bathroom is incredible! It’s also in a beautiful, peaceful spot. The owner was friendly and had lots of interesting things to share.

A real place to unwind, with a beautiful stone farmhouse full of handmade objects and art. There are lots of shared spaces to relax, watch TV, or play music, and my son especially loved playing the piano. The owners are incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful. We joined the workshops and had a great time. Wonderful experience, and we’ll be back soon.

The rooms and furnishings were unconventional, almost surreal, and really charming. After a pleasant walk in the woods, I fell in love with the stars. It was a dreamy night, with a delicious homemade breakfast and such warm, friendly people who made us feel at home. A delightful stay, especially if you need a break from routine. A place for dreamers. Thank you.
