Bed and Breakfast La Terrazza

This was my first and last stay here. I know it’s meant to be a cheaper hotel, but my experience was awful. Even the cheapest hotel I stayed at in the Philippines was wonderful by comparison. The receptionist was rude, arrogant, and disrespectful. I’d made a special request for an earlier check-in than usual, and the hotel confirmed it. When we arrived, they said it was my problem and made me wait six hours. They yelled at me and wouldn’t even let me finish speaking. Their English wasn’t very good, so they mostly spoke Italian, although I said several times that I didn’t understand. The room was hard to know where to start with: mold in the shower, a disgusting smell, and a clogged, dirty drain. The bed seemed “clean,” but the blanket had holes in it, and the floor was dusty. I honestly want to meet the people who left positive reviews. If you’re staying in Brescia, my advice is to pick somewhere better.

The terrace was a lovely bonus, and the rooms were clean and roomy. We were also just a 10-minute walk from the old city centre, with the train station very close by for day trips from Brescia. Our hosts were so kind, and breakfast each morning was amazing. We had a wonderful stay!

The price was low and the staff were really friendly. That’s about all I can say in its favor. It’s a bizarre mix, like a sleazy nightclub trying to be the Ritz, and the place felt ridiculously hot even though it was cold outside. We slept with the balcony door open and were still too warm. The bathroom needs descaling on all the taps and the showerhead, and the whole place could use a renovation. The mattress smelled so awful that I had to be exhausted enough to sleep on it. Check-in was a mess. We had to haul our things to another building with no elevator just to get a code, then go to a different building. The bedroom door locks automatically and is difficult to open, which feels very unsafe in a fire. The bathroom door doesn’t lock at all. If you just need a cheap place near the station, you’ll probably get by, but I wouldn’t ruin a holiday by staying in this dump.

It did the job for one night. The room is on the first floor, European numbering, and there’s a tiny elevator, so large bags may not fit. Check-in and breakfast happen across the street at Hotel Christallo. The coded locks take patience to open. I didn’t run into any hotel staff.
