The sea-view restaurant was a real highlight. Dinner at sunset with Stromboli in the background was unforgettable, and the fresh, good-quality food included fish and seafood every day, with something for everyone. The friendly, always-smiling staff made it even better. Special greetings to Paolo and Emanuele! The rooms were very clean, cleaned daily, and towels were changed regularly. The property has a peaceful, intimate atmosphere, beautiful gardens, lovely pools, and a gorgeous beach. A shuttle runs on time, though we also enjoyed walking there for the lovely views along the way. We had such a relaxing stay and would love to return. Warm greetings to the whole helpful team!

Everyone at La Conchiglia was wonderful. We even hugged staff goodbye, and some of them joined us on the dance floor Friday night. We’d go back in a heartbeat. Adoro La Conchiglia! We checked in with Luana and Paola, who were so kind and happy to help with anything. Adoro! Lucia, mostly at the pool bar, was another ray of sunshine. We didn’t meet the hotel manager, but saw him tidying chairs and greeting guests in the morning. It was clear he cares about the hotel and people’s experience. Sorry I didn’t catch your name, Mr Hotel Manager. The entertainment was loads of fun, especially the “animators”, Katerina, Henrik and Attilla. They were brilliant at what they do and so friendly. We couldn’t stop smiling all week. It finished at 11pm, then things were incredibly quiet. There were plenty of sunbeds too, no towel reserving nonsense. Our room was clean, with a comfy bed and a really spacious balcony. The hotel sits on a cliff, so the walks are hilly, but if you’re mobile and up for it, the views make it gorgeous and worthwhile. The beach shuttle is handy for the return trip, with times listed at reception and on the check-in leaflet. Tropea is an easy trip, just an 8 minute train ride away. The station is a flat 10 minute walk from the hotel, and tickets are €1.40 each way. The food was great for our 7 days, with fresh salads, lovely local produce, daily pasta from the kitchen, and snacks always available. Some guests said they were bored with it after two weeks. Drinks were a little limited, my only suggestion for improvement, though the Peroni on tap and holiday cocktails were lovely. It was absolutely fantastic, our best holiday yet.

The people working in the restaurants, bars, housekeeping, and other services helped make the stay better despite the reception problems. The young staff worked hard, were friendly and helpful, and their positive attitude made a real difference. They could use proper guest service training. Housekeeping cleaned daily and changed the towels, perhaps a bit too often. The bartenders, waiters, drivers, and chefs deserve credit, especially the very kind Mohamed. The first impression at reception was poor. My mother and I spent the last two weeks of August at the hotel, booked through a travel agency. The room with two single beds we’d reserved wasn’t ready, perhaps because the agency and hotel had miscommunicated. After an hour’s wait we were given a room, then told to leave immediately because it was “reserved for TUI Deutschland guests.” Having to pack and move again after a long journey was frustrating. The replacement room had one double bed, which we couldn’t accept. One receptionist, Ms. L, spoke arrogantly and unprofessionally, asking what the problem was and saying she was changing the room “only out of goodwill.” Those comments were unnecessary. I can’t share the enthusiasm other guests expressed about the food. There was plenty, but the quality disappointed me, and a number of Italian guests said the same. People who cook often or eat at Italian restaurants, whether inexpensive or high-end, might find it underwhelming. Desserts were the one bright spot, always fresh and interesting. Better front desk service and more attention to food quality would make the hotel more welcoming and satisfying. Still, perhaps it’s hard to find a better offer in Europe at this price. The stay was affordable and reasonably priced, especially through a travel agency.

The beach is lovely, though the walk down is steep but manageable. We only used the quiet pool, which was lovely, and the beach. The main pool seemed short on sunbeds, but I can’t really comment as we didn’t use it. Rooms are basic and clean, and the staff are mostly friendly and helpful. The food selection isn’t huge, but we always found something to eat.
