There’s nowhere to shop and no nightlife. It might look pretty in a daytime photo, but it’s definitely boring and not a place I’d spend even an hour.

There’s lots of parking, and a well-stocked café just outside. The staff are friendly and know their stuff. The castle is beautiful inside and well maintained, and you can enjoy the nearby sea or go for a swim. If you’re in the area, stop in to look around and especially to visit.

We came at the end of September and found everything locked. We couldn’t find a way into the castle, and I’m not sure visitors can see the inside at all.

This isn’t one of the grandest historic residences, more of a stately home with terraces facing the sea and direct beach access. Still, the castle, shore and rocks that look like little sea stacks make it a striking, evocative place, as if it belonged to another time. Facing south, it gets vivid, colorful sunrises and sunsets.
