Such a lovely B&B.

We chose this place on Booking.com because of its good reviews, though now I wonder if they were fake. After a very tiring trip, we got to Mr. Gianfranco's around 7:30 in the evening. He said he hadn't received our Booking.com reservation, took down my details, my partner's and the children's, then asked for cash because the card machine supposedly wasn't working. He gave us no receipt, which made me wonder if it was under the table. He kindly said we could leave the money on the table when we left, but to avoid any confusion I went to an ATM and paid him directly instead. The room wasn't ready. He said Booking hadn't notified him, which was the first thing that turned out not to be true. He opened a broken sofa bed and put out two sheets and one pillow for our two children. We were exhausted, but he kept us there chatting and talking on the phone while we waited to go find food before the 11pm pandemic curfew. Eventually the kids couldn't wait, so we left for dinner and got back before 11. Once inside, the old TV wouldn't work because its decoder and card had expired, so I missed the last half hour of the Italian Cup final. None of our devices could find the Wi-Fi either, maybe the modem was off or maybe there wasn't one. There were only two towels, not enough for us, and the toiletries listed in the amenities were meager: one shampoo, three tiny bottles and four tiny bars of soap. Luckily we had brought extra towels. The kids showered first, then my partner, and by the time I got in the hot water had run out, so I had to rinse off with cold water. The bed's spring mattress was extremely uncomfortable and I slept badly. The place was dusty, you could tell just by running a finger over things or breathing the air. The private bathroom was large and modern, but it had been built into a terrace, couldn't be locked from inside, and had moldy, crumbling plaster. There wasn't actually any terrace space to smoke or get fresh air. In the morning we tried making coffee with the pod machine in the room. Both coffees tasted awful, perhaps because of old water, and one creamer was black and smelled bad. I flushed the coffees away and left as fast as I could. At €68 for a night, even right by the arcades of Via Roma, I expected at least a clean place. I hope Mr. Gianfranco makes changes so guests can be more comfortable. I won't come back, even for free.

I booked a room for some friends, then had to cancel a day before they were due to arrive because of health issues. The owner understood the circumstances and didn't rigidly enforce the cancellation policy. That was really considerate service. Highly recommend!

Our stay in Cagliari was a pleasure, helped by the clean, spacious room and the handy spot near the center, across from the port. We also appreciated having parking close by. The owner, Dr. Soro, was kind and helpful, and gave us clear, useful tips about interesting places in the city and the surrounding area. I'd definitely recommend Petit Tresor B&B.
