La casa di Astrea

The hostess was friendly, helpful, and really sweet. The old house was lovely, fresh and clean, and the view was amazing. If we return to this charming town, we’ll stay here again.

We only had one night here, since we were in town to try what we’d heard was the best pizza in the world, at Pepe in Grani just steps away. The village is charming, and the owner met us at the entrance and guided us through the narrow streets to this lovely little place. We left the car at the convent next door. Outside, children, older people, and women were chatting and cheering us on. Upstairs, the owner offered us a different room from the one we’d booked because it was cooler, even though it cost more. Both rooms open onto a large, richly furnished shared room with a small fridge stocked with water and juice, plus a coffee maker. The room itself was recently renovated and very clean, as was the bathroom. The balcony view was wonderful, and it was so quiet and relaxing. I’d suggest using sheets that aren’t white. Also, there was no hairdryer, which was inconvenient for those of us who’d left ours at home expecting one to be provided. Breakfast the next morning was at Borgo Antico Caffè in the town center, another lovely spot. We had fresh juice, coffee, and a croissant among people selling boxes of zucchini and children playing. Then we rang the convent intercom, a nun opened the gate, and we collected the car before heading back toward the chaos of Rome. Thanks to all the locals for being so kind. We’ll definitely return.

The host was helpful, serious, and dependable, and the beds were comfortable in a well-kept apartment. The location is fabulous if you're visiting the Royal Palace or the center of Caserta, with paid parking very close by.

Because of boiler problems, we were told at very short notice that Astrea's house was unavailable, so we stayed in an alternative place. Getting in was awkward, especially carrying our suitcases up the stairs. The apartment had a mezzanine sleeping area, with a narrow, inconvenient kitchen and the bedroom and bathroom at the top of the stairs. Water leaked everywhere from the bathtub. We weren't satisfied.
