A lovely spot for swimming and relaxing, with the tuna fishery near Spiaggia Grande. I came by boat, so I didn’t go straight to the beach. From the water I could see quite a lot of seagrass left on the shoreline. Diving was very nice, over a rocky seabed that rises several metres above the sand, and I went down to about 7 metres. There’d been a mistral wind the day before, so the water was cool but pleasant. Top rating, S&P BB+.

It’s a magnificent place, with some old parts of the building where tuna used to be processed. You can’t enter those areas because they’re dangerous.

Quiet and uncrowded, with a beautiful view over the island of Sant'Antioco. Seeing the Calasetta tuna fishery brings its history to mind, including the groups of knowledgeable tuna fishermen who once lived here. It was a lovely stop during my archaeological outing on a short but intense summer holiday.

The place has real potential, and it’s a shame the structure was left abandoned without an assessment project to preserve it and make it available for visits. We arrived in a camper and parked nearby. Everything around was wild.
