Turismo Rurale Baglio Segesta

It’s quite remote, but the food is spectacular and the portions are huge. I’d recommend the antipasto.

The silence was about the only thing we left with a good memory of, along with how little attention we got. We’d reserved lunch at Baglio Segesta while visiting the temples, but the rough dirt roads took careful driving, and once there we waited a long time. Nobody greeted us, so we searched inside and outside until someone appeared. We were the only guests. We ordered mixed appetizers and a few main dishes, but some food seemed carelessly prepared, some reheated, and some cold. The whole meal was disappointing, even allowing for our expectations.

The atmosphere was excellent and the service good. We went for dinner with friends. There are lots of meat dishes, and the desserts were good. The pizza was decent, nothing special, but at €20 each it felt expensive. The road is unpaved, so rainy days are probably best avoided.

The service was warm and quick, even at 4 pm on Whit Thursday. What a fabulous meal! Our group of six loved the delicious pasta (€8), the superb meat platter (€10), and the very good dessert. The antipasti at €12 were extraordinary, made up of typical, high-quality local products. Getting there takes a bit of a trek, but it’s well worth it.
