Hotel Motel Gold

The lack of basics was frustrating: there was no guest Wi-Fi or refreshments in the room, not even a kettle for tea. Breakfast was a poorer spread than I have at home, and a burnt-food smell hung around the whole hotel. It got into our clothes and even the room towels, so it felt like staying in a kitchen. We were thoroughly disappointed by both the stay and the service. This is not a four-star hotel, and I won’t be coming back.

Breakfast was just a few biscuits and cold coffee, and the beds were uncomfortable. We stayed for three nights and found basic things missing, including an iron and refreshments. The staff couldn’t communicate in English either. The whole stay was incredibly disappointing, and I wouldn’t consider returning.

The rooms are spacious, but the place badly needs renovation and a proper clean. There were spider webs everywhere, and the mini fridge clearly hadn’t been cleaned after the previous visitor. The air conditioning didn’t work, and the TV was tiny with no internet connection. Years ago this may have been a four-star hotel with a noble yellow marble interior, but that was in the past. Breakfast was extremely limited for a four-star hotel, more like a hostel or B&B. There was no bread, and the eggs had run out by 9:15. After several complaints, they bought filled croissants and cooked a few more eggs. They also had yogurt, a banana, and an apple, but no other fruit or muesli. The waitress said getting cucumber or tomato was “impossible,” and there were no vegetables or salad. It’s a shame. They ignored the Do not disturb signs and didn’t respect our privacy. The only iron for the whole hotel was very old and broken, so they couldn’t provide one. We discussed all of this with reception, but no discount or compensation was possible. Management was “not reachable,” and reception staff said they were “not authorised” to handle complaints. Unbelievable. They ask guests to pay upfront, but I warn you not to.

We arrived at 11 PM and got stuck waiting until 2 AM because of a so-called technical glitch. That was Motel Gold’s welcome for paying customers. The delay and the way we were treated were infuriating. It felt like a masterclass in awful service and running a hotel badly, with arrogance and contempt for customers on full display. A platinum-level low point.
