The best part was wandering through the old olive trees, picking a lemon straight from the branch and eating it there in the country dust. And ask Signor Luigi to show you the enormous oak tree just a short walk from the farmhouse. I’d hoped for somewhere with this kind of real, lived-in feel: imperfect stone walls and beams that have been there for generations. The family made that feeling real, from Signora Luciana’s freshly baked cake and garden-picked cherry tomatoes in the morning to Luigi chatting and sharing stories about country life. It felt like being welcomed by a genuine Calabrian family that still cares about what matters.

From August 10th to 16th, the whole family made us feel at home. The historic farmhouse sits surrounded by greenery, away from the city’s noise, yet the clear sea is only a ten-minute drive away. The terrace looks out over the sea, and the owners are friendly and always ready to help. We were surrounded by citrus and olive groves, in a peaceful, welcoming spot between the Ionian Sea and the Sila Mountains. There really wasn’t a downside for us. Don’t hesitate, you’ll be delighted and get to experience Calabria as it should be. Excellent in every way.

Time feels like it has stopped at this old farmhouse between the sea and the mountains. It’s a lovely place to spend a few days or a longer stay in nature, with traditional Calabrian food and very good homemade wine.

There’s a lot of potential here, but guests’ comfort needs more attention. The bed frames and mattresses could be better, the TVs and remotes should work, and the garden needs pest control, among other things.
