Hotel Verbena

A peaceful, clean place with a nice view.

I had the best time I've ever had at a hotel, even though I've travelled a lot. It's family run, and everyone was kind, cheerful, and helpful. I stayed half board for 10 days in July and another 10 days in August, and the food was excellent. For Ferragosto they put on a generous buffet with plenty to choose from, including meat, fish, and vegetables.

The staff were very friendly and did their best to give good service, and dinner was edible. But the hotel feels old-fashioned, and the rooms are basic, with minimal furnishings and mattresses where you feel every spring. Breakfast choices were very limited, and if you came down late there was sometimes almost nothing left. Dinner didn't offer much variety either, just pasta, fish, or schnitzel each day. For dessert they put a whole orange in front of you. There are lots of good, inexpensive restaurants nearby.

The chef deserves special praise for the excellent dinners, especially the superb Viareggio cacciucco. We had a short holiday here a few days ago, and the staff were kind and attentive at this family-run hotel. The package that included an umbrella at the Argo beach club and a 20% discount on lunch was excellent.
