The apartment looks very well cared for, which is why I can't bring myself to give it just one star. But during booking, I couldn't have a civil conversation with the man I think was the owner. He answered in single words and sounded clearly irritated. As someone walking the Via Francigena, I had hoped for a friendlier welcome. I should say this review isn't based on an actual stay.

The sheets smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and so did the towels. Maybe people smoke where the laundry is done, otherwise I can't figure out how that happened. It was pretty unpleasant, and without that I would have rated this like a four-star hotel. A shame, because the house itself is lovely and roomy, with what you need for breakfast and a shower, even guest toothbrushes. The entrance is very dark too, so arriving at night means using your phone as a flashlight.

It's a comfortable, nicely equipped apartment, though all those stairs make it a poor fit for anyone who has trouble walking.
