The rooms are above the stables. I know it’s a farm stay, but they were dirty and smelled bad, with dead insects and spiders. There were hairs on the dirty sheets too. Unbelievable, like something from a horror movie. Getting there was rough as well, with miles of dirt road, potholes, and roadworks.

The owners were lovely and gave us useful tips about what to see. We used the place as a base for exploring, though it’s not especially close to either the Abruzzo or Marche coast or the inland sights. We visited the Civitella del Tronto Fortress and Weapons Museum, which I’d definitely recommend. Our SmartBox stay was a birthday gift. The room was more like a little apartment: a big bedroom with an open kitchenette, another bed on the mezzanine, and a small room with bunk beds. It was well kept and spacious, and the balcony looking out over the mountains was a nice touch. Recommended.

The apartment has plenty of room, but the rest is pretty bare bones. There’s no real breakfast, the fridge hardly works, and the only towel was old and stiff. Bringing a dog costs £10 a day, and you don’t get anything for it. I was really disappointed.

A bit cut off from everything, but there’s lots of outdoor space. You can cook arrosticini and have a barbecue, which works well for a group of around 10 on a short stay. The rooms are simple, cozy, and have a quaint feel. The hosts are warm and helpful.

We spent a week here with our three kids, who were 5, 3, and 2 months old. It was quiet and lovely, with big rooms and a well-equipped outdoor area for children. The owners were very kind and happy to help with anything, including suggestions for places to visit or eat. The mountains are about 25 minutes away and the sea about 20, with good connections to both.
