Hotel Abruzzo

We spent Christmas here and really felt at home. The hotel is a bit dated, though it works well and has everything you need. The location is excellent, it's warm and welcoming, the parking is convenient, and there's a cute little spa included, with flexible opening hours. Staff are wonderfully polite and kind, attentive to requests, maybe even more than I've seen elsewhere. The Wi-Fi works throughout and doesn't need a password. Food is home-cooked from local ingredients, with generous, tasty portions for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No machines or industrial products. Cleanliness was fair. Prices are excellent, and all in all it was worth it. A few thoughts: a minibar with water in the room would be handy, since asking at the bar downstairs can be a nuisance. Board games for all ages in the living room and some background music in the restaurant would be nice too. They could also do a better job screening out rude, uncouth guests.

The hospitality really stood out. Everyone was courteous, helpful, and attentive to guests' needs, and they try hard to accommodate requests. The restaurant is excellent, with high-quality ingredients and authentic Abruzzo cooking, from tender, tasty meats and flavorful vegetables to sausages, legumes, and polenta. They carefully handle food allergies and intolerances, including lactose and gluten, and take guests' preferences into account. I visited at the end of December 2025. This historic hotel in Campo di Giove has some renovated rooms, while others still look like the 1970s. The orthopedic beds and mattresses were fine, but sound carries badly between rooms, including TV and bathroom noise. Heating was excellent. Housekeeping was rather superficial, just about passing. Snow in Campo di Giove is mostly a memory now, so skiers may find it inconvenient: the Alto Sangro ski area is a 35-40 minute drive along winding mountain roads. I'd recommend it for families with children or anyone wanting peace, fresh air, and traditional Abruzzo food away from city noise.

The dinner was delicious, with an appetizer, two first courses, a main with a side, and dessert. Our superior room had a walk-in closet, a spacious bathroom with a shower, two separate bedrooms for us and the children, plus a minibar and TV in each room. The owner was incredibly helpful and made us feel at home, and Mrs. Ludovica understood and met our many requests. We had a positive experience, both financially and professionally. The hotel is being renovated, but guests can still stay. Thanks to everyone, from the kitchen to reception. It's really worth a visit. See you next time.

The location was very convenient, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner both surpassed what we expected, and the staff were incredibly friendly. We had a really good stay. Four stars for the rooms, only because of a few small things I'll leave unmentioned.
