Hotel Baia Imperiale

We were very disappointed. This does not feel like a four-star hotel, and I wouldn't recommend it. When we arrived, we waited at the front desk for over ten minutes, then had to ask a group of servers for help. Our first room was tiny, musty, and motel-like, with stained, damaged walls. I was uncomfortable there. When I asked to switch, they offered an upgrade that came with an extra charge. The second room was better and closer to the photos I booked from, but still not four-star quality. Its AC didn't work, and staff never came to check it despite two requests. There was old garbage left in the bin, and one minibar water bottle had already been opened. Dinner was really poor. It was edible, but bland: the pasta had no flavor, the veal roll was tough and tasteless, and the bread was extremely stale. The hotel is near the beach, but there were no beach towels in the room. I'd skip this place.

The staff were accommodating and very helpful, especially everyone in the restaurant and bar. We stayed half board and ate two lunches and two dinners. There was a good choice each evening, with something different on offer, and I don't really understand the complaints about the food I've seen in earlier reviews. Breakfast was very good, both in quality and selection. We chose a Plus room at Baia Imperiale, which had been renovated fairly recently. It was on the small side, if I had to find a fault, but it worked well for us and had a nice sea view. We drove around much of the island and felt fortunate to have found this hotel. It seemed a step above many others.

The restaurant and location are the highlights. We thought the food was the best we tried on the island, the prices were fair, and the service was kind and attentive. We enjoyed our stay, but the rooms let the place down. They’re basic and, in my opinion, not what you’d expect from a four-star hotel. The mattress and pillows were poor, the decor was plain, some bulbs didn’t work, and one window was partly broken and rusty. The room photos on the website also didn’t match what we found, as other reviews have mentioned. We’ve since moved to a three-star hotel and are sleeping much better.
