Chalet Queen

This is about the restaurant, not a hotel stay. We’d eaten at Chalet Queen in March 2024 and loved both the food and the atmosphere, so we came back expecting the same experience. Instead, dinner took almost four hours. We waited about two hours for the food, and even near the end, when we were the only customers, service was painfully slow. We had to keep calling the waitress to order drinks or get water. One friend ordered whisky, and the waitress seemed annoyed that she had to go downstairs for it. The food was far below what we’d had before. Some of the produce and garnishes were old and black, including mouldy avocado and wilted, black iceberg lettuce. The beef tartare was not seasoned, came with a dollop of sauce, and had a bizarre garnish of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. The ravioli looked unappealing, as though served in its cooking water, and didn’t taste very good. The wine by the glass was a mediocre €14, and those prices weren’t listed on the menu, so I wish I’d checked first. When we told the staff we were unhappy, the manager wouldn’t come speak with us. The waitress and chef tried to explain that they were having trouble getting fresh supplies. It was especially disappointing after such a good visit in 2024. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The outside bar played loud music, which we found disturbing, and the price for one night felt steep for what you get. Our room and bathroom were on the small side. On the plus side, the staff were helpful and friendly, and there’s free parking behind a closed fence. Breakfast is basic but has what you need to start the day. The hotel interior is new, in a simple alpine style, and its elevated location beside the ski lifts gives it great views.

The staff and management were wonderful, always smiling and ready to help. They even let us check out late at no extra charge so we could ski for a few more hours on our last day. The hotel is new, clean, and modern, and breakfast has a good range of options. The location is ideal, right by the main gondola and another one that goes to a further valley. We had a great stay and strongly recommend Chalet Queen.

Getting there was a little confusing, so some extra signs or clearer directions would help. Apart from that, I really enjoyed my stay. The hotel has a large parking area and a lovely garden with benches, tables, and deck chairs. Everything feels brand new and elegantly furnished, and the big modern room was comfortable, quiet, and carefully thought out down to the details. The beds were super comfortable and there was a large new TV. I can’t believe it’s only two stars. Thanks for a great stay, highly recommended.
