The gardens have a beautiful view, but getting to them with a small child felt a bit stressful because the apartment is in a separate building across an extremely busy road. The balcony also faces that road, so it’s quite loud. They tell you the rooms are in another building, but not that it’s on the far side of the road, and the apartment rooms are much worse than those in the main hotel. Staff were friendly sometimes and grumpy at others. It was a frustrating stay.

The apartment was clean and tidy, but Alnergo del Lago is about 3 km beyond Cannobio, so you need a car or have to use the bus. Walking into town is possible via a fairly steep, rickety staircase, though it takes around 1 hour 30 minutes. If you get back to the hotel after 6:00 PM, they direct you to the minibar.
