We had to cancel this booking within a week, along with several other reservations, even though we’d booked about six weeks ahead and paid a €50 deposit. Every other Refugio and Locanda returned our deposit without hesitation, but this place kept the €50. I found that attitude embarrassing for the region and out of step with the spirit of Valle Maira. It also made me wonder whether the owner really has roots in this beautiful valley. If you can, avoid staying here. They don’t represent the hospitality the area is known for.

After a long walk, we found the double room lovely and spotless, with lots of thoughtful details. Dinner was great too. The staff were super friendly. Thanks, Aurelio, for the advice and for making coffee for us at 6:10 am even though the kitchen and bar were closed. And thanks to marta, who reminded us what a small world it is.

After a long walk in wonderful weather, with fabulous views, we stopped at this café, which is beautifully situated overlooking the mountains. We ordered drinks: a large sparkling water, two small fruit juices, and a Coke. We were really disappointed to find the juices cost €4 each. We’d seen the same juice in the shop for €0.90. We understand cafés are struggling right now, but that’s a 400% markup! I don’t think locals would have been charged that.

The dining was very good, and the location is great for hikers, with lovely surroundings. The rooms are spacious, furnished in an authentic style, and have balconies.
