Marechiaro Paestum

We stayed in a room called “marechiaro a mare,” listed for four people, but it could barely fit two. There wasn’t enough space for all four of us, even just above the beds. It had no windows, so we had to leave the door open for fresh air, straight onto the street, with no mosquito net to keep insects out (see photo). One towel was already dirty, there was only one roll of toilet paper for four people over three days, the remotes had no batteries, and the lamps had no bulbs. The gate was broken and held near the wall with rope and screws, as you can see in the photos. The messages described secure parking, but it was just a lot in the middle of the street, where you could park in front of your house if you liked. Go out at night and you’ll most likely have trouble finding your way back. We reported everything by text. The guy told us to speak to a colleague at the restaurant next door, but unfortunately she didn’t speak Italian and literally couldn’t understand anything. We were told there’d be a discount at the beach club, 18 euros instead of 25. When we got there, though, we had to negotiate a 20-euro discount with the club because its rates didn’t match what the owner had advertised. The beach club staff were super friendly. The location near the sea and the air conditioning were good. There’s potential here, but a lot needs fixing. When I booked, the owner talked me into booking privately instead of through Booking.com, so I’m having to leave my review here.
