Resort La Mandola

I really object to being treated by your staff or owner like a “disturbance.” We were part of a group that caused “fastido,” but we filled most of your hotel. I wouldn’t have stayed after that initial “welcome” if it had been my choice, but the island is small, so there wasn’t much choice. I was charged for a room where there was no hot water unless you let it run for ten minutes. After being treated like an annoyance, I felt I couldn’t make any more requests. The swimming pool and location were the only saving graces. Would I come back? Not in your life!

The island’s quiet, off-the-grid feel suited us perfectly. Capraia is a small fishing and hiking island with limited technology, so some negative reviews seem to come from visitors who hadn’t looked into that beforehand. WiFi worked really well in the hotel cafe, but if you need to be glued to technology or work from your room, this probably isn’t the place for you. We had a wonderful time. We stayed five days and wished we could have stayed longer. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready to suggest places to visit or eat. Our room and bathroom were very clean, and there was air conditioning. The hotel restaurant’s food was AMAZING. I highly recommend the grilled steak with rocket and cheese, it was delicious. The full service bar had wonderful drinks, too. With the beaches, grotto, and port nearby, this is definitely a top choice for a stay in Capraia.

The staff made both of my visits to La Mandola eco Hostel feel like true hospitality. I stayed once in October 2023 and again in June 2024, and everyone was friendly and eager to help with whatever I needed. The people working at the connected bar and restaurant were just as charming and helpful, and the food and service were great. The place is laid out like a compound, with several separate buildings, courtyards, and terraces, plus a large pool. Many rooms and parts of the property have incredible views of the sea and mountains. Then again, it’s Capraia, so the scenery is bound to be beautiful. It’s a great affordable option for visiting the island. Much love to all the staff.

We spent about a year planning our wedding with Nadia and Martina, and they communicated clearly and efficiently about the arrangements and bookings. They also made sure our guests had fantastic experiences. Martina was incredibly patient with us through nearly daily conversations before the wedding, and she handled translations and last minute guest cancellations gracefully. She was amazing to work with, and I’m so grateful we had her. Martina is a star. My husband Sean and I traveled from NYC to Capraia for our wedding, and it turned out to be the best decision we ever made. Our September visit and stay at La Mandola in the beautiful attic room, with its two terraces, felt romantic and special, like a dream come true. After our long day of travel, Martina welcomed us with Aperol Spritz, delicious speck, and snacks.
