Hotel Capranica

A warm welcome, and the staff are almost embarrassingly helpful. The small hotel is immaculately kept, with every necessary amenity, though without the unnecessary extras. It’s meticulously clean, and the entrance has a grand medieval-style marble portal. I’ll return.

What a discovery, a nice hotel about an hour from Rome along the Via Francigena. The bed was very comfortable, and the rooms and bathroom were clean and well kept. The one drawback is that the doors are a bit thin, so you can hear everything happening in the hallway.

The issue isn't that the hotel describes itself as simple. The blankets were large and stained, the toilet seat was broken, and there was dirt everywhere. They also sold the room as including breakfast, then sent us to a bar for a croissant and coffee. That wasn't mentioned when we booked. A truly terrible experience.

The historic center is a quiet place with interesting history and architecture, and the locals are friendly and down-to-earth. The local cuisine is well worth trying. The rooms were clean and well equipped, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Prices were good too. I highly recommend it.
