Hotel Luna

The bag service was a huge help: for £20 per bag, they take your luggage from the ferry to the hotel, and offer the same service when you leave. We got to Capri before check-in and could explore without hauling our bags over the hills and rough roads. My wife and I stayed in a standard room, which was furnished well beyond what we expected, and it was clean and comfortable throughout. We ate at the Luna Rooftop Restaurant, where the seafood and service were some of the best we had, with a sea view to go with it. While we were at dinner, housekeeping made up our room. Breakfast is complimentary and had the same good service, with fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, yogurt, granola, pastries, charcuterie meats and cheeses, breakfast meats, and more. You can order espresso drinks too, and the cappuccino is a must. The front desk staff were accommodating and spoke very good English and Italian. Luna Hotel made our Capri trip 10000x better, and was one of our favorite hotels in Italy. I hope this review helps someone enjoy it too.

We loved Hotel Luna on our honeymoon. The hotel is only a short walk from town, tucked away, and the Faraglioni views are amazing, especially from the deluxe rooms. Our room was nice, with stylish tiling. Having breakfast brought to the room so we could enjoy it with the sea view was impeccable. Thanks for such a wonderful stay. I highly recommend it!

During our long honeymoon, the staff here gave us my favorite customer service experience of all the places we stayed in Greece and Italy. The hotel has a warmth and charm we didn't find anywhere else, and its island location is perfect. The ocean-facing view is excellent. It’s quiet and serene, with lots of green space. We also really enjoyed the breakfast, the pool, and the nearby places to walk around and explore. My wife and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon, and I think it's a great base for experiencing Capri.

La Luna has a beautiful setting and a few real strengths, though I was disappointed by several things. The pool area is lovely, and the rooftop bar is a nice spot for a drink. The location is excellent: right by the town center and its high-end shops, but set back enough that it feels away from the crowds once you’re on the property. The sea-front rooms look straight onto the Faraglioni rocks. We had a garden-view room and could still see the sea and rocks off to the right. The main letdown was the service. We were new to Capri and didn't know how arrival worked, how to use the funicular, or how to move our bags. The port was chaotic, and the taxi line looked at least 100 people long. When I called the hotel, the person on the phone wasn't much help. There were no directions on the website or in my confirmation email either. We eventually worked out the funicular: you queue to buy tickets, then line up again to board. With big bags, the steep steps at the end make it difficult. Some arrival guidance would have made things much easier. We were due to leave Friday, but the forecast showed very strong winds and we worried about the ferry to Sorrento. On Thursday morning, the front desk said the Friday ferries would most likely be cancelled. We checked out early that day to get to Sorrento before the wind, and it turned out to be the right call: all Friday ferries were cancelled. The hotel didn't refund Thursday night, even though we left early. I also doubt they would have told guests about the cancellations if we hadn't asked. We could have been stuck on Capri and missed our flight. That felt unprofessional. Hotels should warn guests when bad weather could affect their travel plans. Our hotel in Positano was proactive about storms and helped us arrange alternate travel, but Luna didn't do that. The restaurant was just okay, and the rooms are nice but not what I'd expect from a four-star hotel. They could use an update. I might stay here again if I returned to Capri, but I’d rate it closer to three stars than four.
