The people here really made it special. Everyone we met was so warm, professional, and genuinely kind, a level of hospitality that’s hard to come by. After a meal and a few days on the estate for our wedding at La Tavernetta at Castello di Spessa, we left already wanting to return. The setting is stunning and the food was delicious. Even a quick stop for what I still think was the best coffee I’ve ever had would be worth it. It’s the kind of place that reminds you how good a restaurant can feel when the welcome is personal rather than rushed. A firm 10 out of 10.

The service was good, and we weren’t very hungry, so we shared three plates, along with a cake and two glasses of wine. The bill came to 104€, though, and the wine list is extensive but the wine is very expensive. I’d expected more from the castle-like interior and the view of the castle. As soon as we arrived, we noticed there were no local guests or Italians, which made us wonder whether we’d picked well. The portions were fine, but the food itself was very average. I’m sure we could find better food for less somewhere else, perhaps in a slightly less attractive setting. I was disappointed.

If you want a stay you’ll remember, this is a place to go in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The setting is almost one of a kind there. You can dine in plenty of places, but only a few turn it into an experience, and this is one of them. G&M review, excellent.

The view is spectacular, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to enjoy the meal. The staff are really friendly too. The food is basically Italian, with some interesting modern touches. I’ll definitely be back.
