B&B Palazzo Lanza

There’s no elevator, and the rooms are up on the second floor, so this may not suit older guests or anyone with limited mobility. The owner kindly helped carry our bags, though. The building is beautiful and historic, and our room was large and spacious. Wi-Fi worked, there was a small fridge outside the room, and the location was excellent.

You can park inside the entrance courtyard, and the area seemed quiet. There’s also an excellent restaurant in the inner courtyard. The two rooms share a lovely terrace where you can enjoy a peaceful break from the noise, though it’s not a good fit for boisterous children. Getting in through all the doors and gates feels a bit like entering a castle and stepping back in time. I’d gladly return for the price, but the stairs are quite steep, so they could be difficult for anyone unused to them or with mobility problems.

The terrace off my spacious two-room apartment looked out over Capua’s rooftops, and the room had everything I needed for a pleasant stay. It was tastefully furnished, and reaching it meant walking through a good part of the building. Breakfast was at a short walk away, at a popular, excellent pastry shop where we were welcomed warmly. I’d heard about Palazzo Lanza a few years ago from two friends who stayed here and loved it. Last week I finally experienced it myself. This 16th-century residence sits in the historic center and has a strong character, with its old-world charm apparent right away. It’s an easy choice for my future trips to Capua.

The building’s old architecture and furnishings give every room a sense of its prestigious history. There’s even a library and bookshop here, and the location has plenty of charm. Cleanliness was adequate, though it could have been better. Breakfast isn’t served at the property, so you need to eat at a bar.
