Eclissi B&b

The rooms are basic, but they do the job perfectly well for sleeping. It’s a clean little B&B near Vascellero beach, just a few steps from the sea, with young, really friendly staff. The air conditioning works very well in the heat, and there’s reserved parking. The restaurant and adjoining reception hall can get noisy, which might bother you depending on your habits.

Paying came down to the cashier saying “60,” with no questions about how lunch had been. We stopped in on August 15th and agreed to the €30 fixed menu per person, but I’d say go somewhere else. The oil for frying seemed old, the welcome drink was warm and tasted watered down, and the drinks arrived late without ice. The pasta, first course, and dessert were overcooked, with tough “beef”; the second course, featuring frozen seafood, was bland. The girls were willing to serve, but didn’t seem skilled. The owner was cold when he greeted us. Maybe he’s new to the job, but practically everything went wrong. Absolutely not recommended.

The only things that kept this from being an 8.5 were the overly soft mattresses and the windows without blackout curtains. Still, it’s a highly recommendable place, especially with the sea so close. We found the hospitality excellent, the food very good, especially the pizzas, and the portions generous. Great value for money. I’d give it 7.5 as it is.

The sea is crystal clear and not far away, and Cariati’s old town is worth seeing too, with its lovely paintings just a 5-minute drive away. We had a truly relaxing stay. The owners were so friendly and helpful that they made us feel at home, and pizza chef Luigi was just as attentive, putting real dedication and passion into his work.
