Le Rose

Valsugana isn't a typical tourist destination, but that’s part of its appeal. I’d lived in Switzerland for two years and knew beautiful scenery, yet Sugana Valley still impressed me. It’s rich in local flavor and well worth seeing. I found Le Rose B&B by chance while looking for lodging near Trento. It hadn't appeared in my searches, but a small roadside sign caught my eye. Rita speaks very little English, but she’s incredibly kind, friendly, and accommodating. When I tried to ask something, she seemed to get the gist and would answer with her two English words, “No problem!” The location is stunning. Carzano sits at the foot of a huge mountain. From Le Rose, the road uphill leads to a peak with a park, hiking, and a restaurant. Looking down from the dining area, you can see the valley winding between two mountains, with beautiful paths for bike rides that could last for hours. I took those room and dining area photos myself. I arrived around 5 pm, tired and hungry after a week of cycling across the Alps, including a 100-mile ride that day. I didn't feel like looking for a restaurant, so I ate there. Rita said the restaurant wouldn't open until 6:30, but when I told her how far I'd ridden, she gasped and offered to cook for me straight away. The risotto was delicious. I hadn't asked what the room or dinner would cost. I probably wouldn't have understood the answer, and I needed a bed and a meal anyway. It was July 2013, which I assumed was high season, but I was the only guest and got a room without a reservation, perhaps because the place is a bit off the beaten path. I only found out the price at checkout and was amazed at how reasonable it was. I don't have the receipt with me, but the room was around 25 Euros. Dinner, at about 22 Euros, was a bit expensive, but worth every bit. I’d absolutely stay again and would feel comfortable bringing friends and family.

The lady was very kind, though she pushed a bit for us to order the dishes she wanted. We had a good time at lunch, and the food was well prepared and tasty overall. The scallops were the exception: they weren't grilled properly and came out mushy. The setting had a bit of an 1980s feel.

We really enjoyed staying at this lovely, well-kept place. Thank you for the warm, friendly welcome and the excellent cooking, made with good local products.

Tatjana and Toni, their children, and the grandparents have completely won us over. The rooms were comfortable and very clean, and the food was outstanding. Gianni's menus were fantastic, and Rita gave excellent wine recommendations. See you soon!
