Hotel Ape Regina

We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. The room was cozy and clean, and the view was just awesome. Giussepe even walked us through a whole map of the island and explained how it works. The staff were so nice and kind, and I really recommend staying here. It’s high up on the island, so be ready for the walk if you want to go on foot 😁. There’s also a bus stop about 300m from the hotel.

I could watch the sea for hours. It looks even better in person than the photos suggest, and I watched the sunset right from my room. The terrace is wonderful too, so whether you’re eating breakfast, sleeping, or just walking around, that view is always there. Joseppe and his sister, who run the hotel, made me feel at home. They’re kind, welcoming, and do everything they can to make your stay memorable. They know the island well and were incredibly helpful. I loved staying here and would definitely return when I’m back in Ischia. It also felt very safe as a solo traveller. I got around by scooter, so I can’t say how easy it is to reach by public transport.

I loved L'Ape Regina, but getting to and from it without your own transport can be a real struggle. The #16 bus is the only one that goes up the mountain, and it’s often late or simply doesn’t arrive. When it does come, it can be so packed that the doors won’t close properly. We ended up waiting for ages, and once had to take a taxi from the bottom of the mountain. The driver left the meter off and charged us €10 for 1.25 miles, though it should have cost no more than €5. Be careful with taxis too, they may take advantage of you. I’d rent a car or scooter if I stayed again, even if driving in Italy feels like a risk. The hotel itself is lovely. We had our own deck and balcony looking out over the ocean, marina, and mountains. Breakfast was free each morning, with fantastic espresso, and the staff were lively, friendly, and helpful.

We had a wonderful stay and would absolutely recommend this hotel. The rooms are simple, clean, and well maintained, and paying for one with a view is worth it. Guissepe and Catarina took great care of us, and the service was amazing.
