Ischia Casa della Vela

We paid the full price for a double room at 80 euros, but somehow ended up in a three-bed apartment that was just disgusting. There was mould on the walls, dust everywhere, cheap plastic furniture, and no air conditioning. The bathroom was revolting, with a very dirty toilet and an extremely dirty, rusty shower. Some pipes were dripping, the mirror was cracked and had rusty spots, and there was a smell too. The staff weren't very helpful, and even though we'd paid in full, they refused us breakfast. This "hotel" was extremely overpriced and dirty. Definitely the worst hotel I've ever been to. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

Our three children couldn't have been happier, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The family apartment was spacious, clean, and in perfect condition, though simply furnished. It was just 10 steps from the pool and had a wonderful view of the blue Mediterranean Sea. We stayed for over a week, and couldn't have found anything else on the island at this price. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. Their suggestions for day trips were spot on, from thermal springs and beaches to gardens and ice cream shops. There was even a garage for our rental car at no extra charge. We'd happily stay again.

It had once been a school, and for a few years it became an unusual hotel run by a warm family. My thoughts are with Casamicciola and its residents, recently struck by a flood.

It doesn't exist anymore. There's a school there now!
