That rooftop garden became my favorite spot to sit and read, and I got around Caserta entirely on foot. The hotel was an easy walk from the station and the Castle, so I never needed transport. I stayed four days in June 2011, and my single room had everything I needed, with plenty of charm. It was spotless and well supplied. The staff were so friendly, making me a chocolate-filled croissant and strong cappuccino each morning. I’d grab fruit from the free basket for a snack while I was out. There’s even a little elevator for luggage, which you don’t find in every European hotel. I speak Italian, so communication was easy for me. I wouldn’t count on much English, though everyone was kind and I think you’d manage. Hotel Amadeus was my favorite place on that whole trip to Italy. I’d happily recommend it for visiting the beautiful Castle or as a base for Napoli, only a short train ride away.

The palace and gardens are impressive, and there are some great restaurants in the area. The hotel is conveniently near both the train station and the palace. Still, Caserta didn’t leave me with a great impression, since there isn’t a huge amount to do or see beyond those main attractions.
