The train station is an easy walk away, and the apartment itself has three bedrooms, two toilets, a full kitchen, and a sitting room. Every room opens onto a balcony, and there's a lovely view of the Neapolitan sun. My sister, the owner, loves decorating and keeping the place tidy, and she's a fantastic cook. Thanks, Rosa, for looking after us, and for keeping our parents' home alive. This is the house I grew up in. After our parents passed away, my older sister turned the old family apartment into a beautiful BNB in Castellammare di Stabia, or Stabia as we call it. The town is well connected, about 5 miles from Sorrento and around 10 miles from Naples. Nearby places worth seeing include Sorrento, Capri, Ischia, and the Procida islands, which give you a glimpse of the 'real' Italy. If you're after history and adventure, there are also Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii, and Erlocano. Stabia sits at the end of the Lattari mountain chain and is known for about 10 kinds of natural drinking water. Trust me, after a drink of it, you feel better right away :) As her brother, you might expect me to say only good things, but honestly this is a simple, lovely, affordable place to stay while exploring our country and culture.
The first night was unbearably hot because there's no air conditioning, and we eventually cut our stay short. The place itself is quite nice and we were welcomed warmly at first, but there were problems after that. Breakfast paper towels took several requests, and parking meant searching for hours. We couldn't use the laundry because the owner would start and pause her washing so nobody else in the house could use the machine. We had two small children with us. They laughed at an invisible chocolate machine on the sofa cover, they're kids, after all, if it were mine. But then we weren't allowed to take photos or speak badly about us to the other residents. We also couldn't have lunch when we wanted because cleaning had to happen first. At 2 pm the kitchen still wasn't done, and we were told, "You left late." I'd paid to stay in the house all day, and shouldn't have to go out. Please be more polite about people behind their backs. It's easy to act differently when they're standing in front of you. Thanks, but definitely never again.
The apartment was spacious, always airy, and very clean. Rosa was kind and happy to suggest places to visit. Shops are good and close by, and the Circumvesuviana station is within walking distance, which makes the location handy. The bathroom being outside the room was a shame, and the washing machine wasn't available. Parking takes a bit of luck.
The quiet building, on the fifth and top floor with an elevator, made it easy to rest. Every room has a balcony, and there’s also a lovely veranda. Right away, it felt less like checking into a B&B and more like borrowing a home from friends. The rooms are furnished and looked after with real affection, and the Christmas decorations in every room were a sweet surprise. Giuliano and his father Andrea.
The owners were nice, but the stay had too many downsides. It's at least a 15-minute walk to the beach and restaurants, there's no breakfast or proper parking, and there isn't a washing machine. Towels are changed only if you ask. Morning cleaning woke me several times while I was still asleep, with the vacuum cleaner. Definitely wouldn't recommend it.
