Casa del Mago

I've never stayed anywhere quite like this, and I'm so glad we booked it! The place has so much charm, from the hand-carved rock and renovated modern comforts to the stone steps up to the flat and the ancient wooden door with its cross-beam lock. It felt like travelling back in time. The village location is perfect, communication was wonderful, check-in was easy, and the host was extremely helpful beforehand. It won't suit everyone: the private bathroom is up a few more ancient stone steps inside, and the shower is extremely small and cramped. If you're okay with those things, I can honestly say the place is magic.

We had a comfortable stay in Castlemezzano, and the room was clean enough. I do think the place could be looked after a little better to make it even more charming :) The bathroom is indeed a few steps away, but that was totally fine for us.

The kitchen, living room, and sleeping area seemed acceptable, but the bathroom was quite unsuitable, set outside and awkward to reach. The entrance and stairs were in appallingly unsanitary condition, covered in bird droppings.

The historic house is right in the town center, immaculately clean, and full of period features. It was well heated, and the fireplace came stocked with plenty of wood. We cooked delicious meat from the butcher 30 meters away in the fully equipped kitchen with stone floors. The bed beneath a stone arch was incredibly comfortable, with beautifully preserved handcrafted lamps around it. I was especially taken with the window between the living and sleeping areas, set into a meter-thick wall, absolutely stunning. The bathroom is private to the apartment and just 10 steps away, so there's privacy and intimacy. A wonderful experience, and I'd highly recommend it. I'll definitely come back when I can.
