Hotel Bad Ratzes

Petra, Francesca, Gabriel, and the restaurant team, Ramish and Danilo, were all so friendly and went out of their way to welcome us and accommodate our special needs. Everything was clean, and the hotel felt cozy and nice. We had a great time and will definitely come back.

We hadn’t planned to stop here, but ended up staying for three days and enjoyed it a lot. It’s a newly renovated, very cozy hotel in an ideal forest location, with hospitable owners, great food, and perfect service.

We’ve been here for two ski holidays and are booked for a third year. Petra is super friendly and approachable, and she’s a big part of the relaxed atmosphere. We’ve stayed in both a simple family room and a suite, and were absolutely happy with each. It has a luxurious feel and a lovely mix of comfort and ambience, though it isn’t a classic family hotel. The small size means you can let the kids roam without worrying they’ll get lost. The indoor pool keeps them entertained, though we only use it once or twice a holiday. After skiing, we barely see the kids until mealtimes. They’re off again by our first course, so we can enjoy a four-course dinner without interruptions. The food is very good, especially the focaccia. Be warned, you might not enjoy focaccia anywhere else again after trying it here! There are two simple playrooms, but the staff are hands-on and keep the kids occupied and included. Most guests speak Italian and our kids don’t, yet all the children play together, probably thanks to the ladies looking after them. On our first trip, our daughter was five and took a while to warm up, sometimes coming to find us in the lobby. One of the carers would gently convince her to go back and join the group. So, so nice. I’d recommend this place to people without kids who want to holiday with friends or family who have them. Drinks aren’t included, but they’re very affordable. Usually just one person is working the bar, and she can get quite frantic when it’s busy, so you may have to wait a bit.

I took a while to decide whether to write this. I think the hotel is good in general, but we didn’t expect to pay 1000 euro for two nights, even with the voucher, and have the experience we did. The breakfast was pretty good, but dinner didn’t feel right for a four-star hotel. We had food that was undercooked and poorly seasoned, and the children’s menu wasn’t good. I liked the new swimming pool, though it isn’t suitable for little children despite the hotel being family-oriented. There were positives, including the location, childcare, the playground in front, and guided tours. But I wouldn’t give five stars for our stay. We had a gift voucher for two adults and spent two years trying to find a date before it expired. We were given different reasons, including hotel reconstruction, and asked to request a room one week before travelling even though there were rooms available. After it expired, they acted as if they were helping us by offering 60% off the price for two adults, which was annoying. We also had unexpected charges: the welcome drink appeared on the final invoice, and although they only mentioned a deposit when encouraging us to borrow a mountain buggy, rental costs for the buggy were added to the bill. We would have been glad to have everything made clear from the start.
