Mangia's Selinunte Resort

I spent a week at Mangia's Selinunte Resort and honestly can't understand all the good reviews it gets. Hygiene was the biggest issue. I've stayed at lots of resorts in different places and expected cleanliness to be a priority in Europe, but flies were all over the food at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and sat on the same tables where we ate. Nobody else seemed bothered except us. The rooms were tiny and not properly cleaned. I wasn't even sure the linens had been changed between guests. There were bird nests under the balconies too, and I wonder if they'd ever heard of bird flu there. The food was below par. We didn't get a single Sicilian signature dish during the whole stay. Italian food, especially at the main restaurant, was horrible. I make better pasta myself. All-inclusive felt like a trap: supermarket pasta, served uncooked when they called it al dente, and very little variety. Maybe that's meant to push people toward the other restaurant or pizzeria, where you pay for food and drinks except for pizzas and some set menus. We asked for a baby crib, and there was barely room left for us to squeeze through. The staff tried to be hospitable, but the poor standard of everything else ruined the stay. The resort is also in a remote area with little nearby. If you need a supermarket or pharmacy, forget it. You end up stuck there. Avoid this place by any means.
