Picciolo Etna Golf Resort & Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton

The hotel is close to excellent wineries, small towns and their authentic restaurants, which made the location a real plus. The rooms are roomy and nicely decorated, and I really liked the shower. Breakfast was good, though I would have liked more hot drink choices. I only heard about them on our last day, and no one came over to offer them. The hotel has been fully renovated. Still, I had two frustrations: the receptionist seemed bothered when we asked for tips and couldn't help with questions about the area or payment. Also, even in a Deluxe room, spa access costs €50 per person for two hours. At a hotel of this standard in the countryside, I think spa access should be included for guests.

We had a rental car, so getting around was easy. Taormina is about a 40-minute drive away, and parking at the hotel is free. The room was modern and clean, and the staff, from the front desk to housekeeping, were friendly, helpful, and professional. The spa was nice, though €40 felt a little steep. I would have liked two towels, one for the flatbed and another for the sauna. As a person of color, I felt safe here. 5/5.

The breakfast was very good, with quality ingredients and a nice selection. The hotel has also been recently remodeled, and the rooms feel spacious, modern, and thoughtfully decorated. It's wonderfully quiet and remote, with Mount Etna in the background, so it feels like a proper escape. A few details fell short of what I'd expect from a five-star place: there was no body lotion, pool towels weren't out unless you asked, and the breakfast menu wasn't offered unless we requested it. Spa entry also costs extra in some room rates, and you have to book ahead. It's a lovely, peaceful hotel with great views and facilities. A few more thoughtful touches with service and amenities would make it even better.

The view of Mount Etna is great, though the hotel is quite far from the main towns. Breakfast was good too. The place looks fairly luxurious, but our room was a letdown. The heating was broken and there was damp on the ceiling. Reception staff weren't especially helpful either.
