B&B Cà Pavaglione

The owners’ generous welcome and deep knowledge of food and wine make staying at Ca' Pavaglione a real pleasure, especially if you enjoy discovering flavors, colors, and places worth remembering. Jose and Matteo have made this quiet, secluded corner of the Langhe feel like a peaceful retreat, yet it’s only a short way from Alba. The rooms are simple but tastefully done, with lots of traditional country objects. Come visit!

The music and dancing in the farmyard are what I’ll carry with me from this visit. As night came on, Jose and her close-knit staff, her son Matteo, his girlfriend Giulia, and some family members laid out dinner beneath the Pergola, or topia, strung with yellow lights like a little sky. The scene felt like a Fellini film, a Langhe AMARCORD. Geese and a small black lamb even wandered into the courtyard. Carmen and I hope to return soon to this enchanting place. Thank you, Ca' Pavaglione. At the table, Jose’s staff served appetizers including "tumin elettrici" with "bagnet verde," raw meat tart, homemade tajarin, and cherry tart. After dinner the musicians started up again, and the three sisters danced in the dim light while more people joined in. Their long shadows on the opposite house brought back the old village festivals of the Langhe. Everything felt wonderful: the quiet setting, the happy faces beneath the topia, the musicians’ enthusiasm, and the staff’s care for every wish. EVERYTHING PERFECT!! I hadn’t returned to the Langa in 15 or 16 years, so arriving felt like uncovering memories I’d put away. Jose, the "Lady of the Langa," welcomed me simply and warmly, and right away told me a group of musicians would entertain the guests and villagers that afternoon. Later, accordion and guitar accompanied Marcello and Silvio singing songs by Gipo Farassino, De Andrè, Piero Montanaro, and the Tre Lilu. Marcello had written many of them in Piedmontese. As the afternoon turned into evening, three sisters aged 78 to 84 appeared with their hair carefully styled, like queens. Jose’s mother, Giuseppina, Palmina, and Ernestina hurried onto the dance floor, which was the sloping asphalt road in front of the pergola, still heavy with golden grapes. They danced like young women, despite insisting they wouldn’t dance. The music drew in the crowd, and people sang along to the familiar songs.

There’s a riding stable nearby, and even beginners can go horseback riding. Add the good wine and it’s a lovely way to unwind in nature. The village feels like a place where time has stopped, with meadow scents and birdsong, and we were welcomed so warmly. The wine is fine, the food is homemade, and you feel at home among friends.

The owners were so kind, friendly, and helpful that we felt right at home. Our room was lovely, with a little kitchen and a welcoming, charming feel. The food was good too.
